About us
How we started
We are a French-Norwegian family: Paul grew up in the French Alps, Margrethe comes from Bergen, and our son Emil was born in Oslo in 2025. Paul lived in Åndalsnes for a while before we settled in Oslo, and Romsdalen never really let go of us. That is how The Crux came to life: a cabin designed by architect Reiulf Ramstad, finished in 2024 and built to face the mountains we love.
We come up as often as we can, and in between we are happy to share the place with guests from all over the world. We are outside every day, trail running, cycling and ski touring in winter, and we love camping and fly fishing too. Feel free to get in touch: we will gladly help you plan your days in Romsdalen, or your whole trip around Norway.
Our tips for your trip to Norway
Embrace the weather. The nature here is spectacular, and the dramatic, ever-changing weather is part of the wild experience. Pack a good Gore-Tex jacket and a light down jacket, even in summer, and waterproof trousers are a smart idea too. Don't let the weather keep you inside: rain or snow never stops Norwegians from heading out, and that is often when the landscape is at its most beautiful. Get out in bad weather, looking forward to the evening Sauna and playing cards by the fireplace!
Stay safe. Many parts of Norway are remote, with patchy phone coverage and rescue services that can be far away. So explore as much as you like, but check the forecast, plan ahead and don't take unnecessary risks :)
